Terms of Service

Welcome to Connect4, a free, two-player Connect 4 game you play in your browser. By creating an account or using the game you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. About the service

Connect4 is a hobby project developed by Dustin Refos. It is provided free of charge, and it may change, be interrupted or be shut down at any time, with or without notice. There is no promise that it will always be available or free of bugs.

2. Your account

• You must give a working email address and choose a username of 3 to 30 letters, numbers or underscores.
• Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• Do not pretend to be another person, and do not choose a username that is offensive or misleading.
• Tell us if you think someone else has accessed your account.

3. Playing fair and behaving well

When you use Connect4 you agree not to:

• harass, threaten, insult or discriminate against other players, in chat or in usernames;
• post anything illegal, hateful, sexually explicit or that exposes someone else's private information;
• cheat by exploiting bugs, using bots or scripts, or sending requests to the game that the normal pages would not;
• try to break, overload, scan or gain unauthorized access to the service, other accounts or the server;
• spam chat or create accounts or rooms in bulk;
• use the game for anything unlawful.

4. Chat and what you post

Chat messages are visible to everyone in the same game room. You are responsible for what you write. We may remove messages or accounts that break these terms. Chat messages are saved in a log for about 60 days so that abuse can be looked into, as explained in our Privacy Policy.

5. Game rooms and results

• Rooms, boards, scores and chat live only while the room exists. They disappear when the room closes or the server restarts, and nothing in them is guaranteed to be kept.
• The host controls the room. A host can close it at any time, and when the host leaves, the room closes and everyone in it is sent back to the lobby.
• Scores and results are just for fun. There are no prizes, rewards or stakes, and nothing in the game has monetary value.

6. Suspension and ending your account

We may suspend or delete an account, or block access, if these terms are broken or if needed to protect the service or other players. You may stop using Connect4 at any time and can delete your account yourself on the Settings page, or ask us to do it using the contact details below. Deleting an account also deletes its match history.

7. Ownership

The game, its design, artwork and code belong to their creators and are protected by law. You may play and share links to the game, but you may not copy, resell or redistribute it without permission. Connect4 is built with open-source software, which stays under its own licenses. You keep ownership of the messages you write, and you allow us to display them in the room where you sent them.

8. No warranty

The game is provided "as is" and "as available", without promises of any kind, whether about availability, accuracy, reliability or fitness for a particular purpose.

9. Limit of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not responsible for any loss or damage that comes from using, or being unable to use, Connect4, including lost games, lost messages or interrupted service. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under law that cannot be limited.

10. Privacy

How we handle your information is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Connect4 after a change means you accept the updated terms.
